Chancellor's Greeting

A message from Chancellor Paydar

Welcome to the IUPUI Community Report website, designed to showcase the outstanding work our faculty, staff, and students are doing with and for the community.

With outstanding undergraduate programs and a vast research enterprise that is supported by hundreds of millions of dollars in external funding, IUPUI attracts and retains world-class talent, from thriving clinical scientists to internationally recognized artists to members of national academies, all of whom contribute to an environment where creative activity, scholarship, and research flourish. That so many are focusing on research centered on fighting the global COVID-19 pandemic speaks to how responsive IUPUI scholars are to the evolving needs of our community.

Ranked in the U.S. News and World Report's top 12 among Tier 1 national public universities for having the best undergraduate teaching, we prepare and graduate civic-minded professionals, actively engage with partners in neighborhoods throughout Indianapolis, and promote the economic development and vitality of the region by forging business and community partnerships.

Just last year, even as we faced the pandemic, we celebrated the success of the 7,250 students who graduated from sites across the state. The vast majority of those graduates will remain in Indiana to live, work, and contribute. That brings our total number of graduates to more than 217,000 people who are making a difference every day in their communities.

While much has changed at IUPUI in the last year, our deep commitment to diversity and inclusion remains as steadfast as ever. Faculty, staff, and students are working together across our campus to raise awareness of this commitment, including ongoing anti-racism and anti-bias training, the establishment of the Center for Africana Studies and Culture, and support services designed to help under-represented students succeed. Thanks in part to such services, this fall, more than 30 percent of our student body were students of Color.

IUPUI is a campus that creates opportunities with a vision for the future. I hope you enjoy the projects showcased on this website, and I encourage you to seek more information about our campus at IUPUI's website.
