Spotlight on Khrisma McMurray

Instilling confidence to excel

Student success is IUPUI's number one strategic priority. Fundamental to that success is creating a diverse and inclusive campus. At IUPUI, students of color comprise nearly 27 percent of our student body.

Support services like the Norman Brown Diversity and Leadership Scholars Program and the IUPUI Diversity Scholars Research Program are designed to help those students succeed at IUPUI. The campus's partnerships with community organizations like the Center for Leadership Development (CLD), with whom IUPUI has partnered for more than a decade, also make a significant difference in student lives.

One such student is Khrisma McMurray, who graduated from Warren Central High School in 2017 and earned a full ride at IUPUI as a Norman Brown Scholar. An Honors College student, she also participates in the IUPUI Diversity Scholars Research Program among other activities on campus. CLD made the difference for Khrisma, who recalls, "I participated in eight different CLD programs that prepared me for college by instilling confidence and giving me the motivation to excel academically and socially."

An award-winning psychology major in the School of Science, McMurray is on schedule to graduate in 2021.
